Anti-Terrorism K-Rated Commercial Bollards
A “K” rating is a security standard established by the U.S. Department of State (DOS) to assess the stopping power of barriers like fences, gates, and bollards against vehicle impacts. Barriers with a “K” rating, often called Ram, Anti-Ram, or Anti-Terrorism bollards, are specifically designed to protect against hostile vehicle threats.
This rating reflects the barrier’s ability to withstand the impact of a vehicle of a certain weight traveling at a specific speed. For testing, the vehicle typically weighs 15,000 pounds. To meet DOS standards, the barrier must limit the vehicle’s penetration to no more than 36 inches beyond the point of impact.
